Stories of impact…

 Responsibility grows here

Good conversations lead to healthy decisions. From 2018-2021 CREA Results helped Coloradans build their capacity to talk with youth about Retail Marijuana use. We conducted over 100 in-person and virtual workshops reaching thousands of adults across the state. Central to our work was the construction of strong partnerships with grassroots groups to assist in recruitment and workshop hosting. Our trainers worked with faith organizations, soccer clubs, food organizations, schools and other groups to meet influential adults and build their capacity to have good conversations with youth.

CENTRAL-70 ENGAGEMENT: CITY OF DENVER, COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, KIEWET

Between Summer of 2017 and December of 2019 CREA Results worked with partners Kiewit, CDOT and the City of Denver to engage residents along the I-70 corridor undergoing construction through Denver, and most specifically, the Globeville, Elyria-Swansea (GES) neighborhoods. The GES neighborhoods cover a large portion of North Denver, including more than thirty thousand residents - a substantial portion of whom are undocumented, monolingual Spanish-speakers, and also includes long-standing Chicano families, refugee families, and others.

CREA Results worked with CDOT and Kiewit Meridiam Partners in 2017 and 2018 to directly engage neighbors impacted by upcoming construction and ensure neighbors would have access to key information and resources about the project. We canvassed more than 794 residential units with a successful face-to-face interactions rate of 48%.

Beginning in 2018 we launched a program with the City of Denver to shift our work to a long term investment in communication and engagement in support of the Central 70 redevelopment. Our team hired seven local Promotores de Salud and developed a special training program called the Peer Navigator Program to ensure we had local, trusted voices helping engage GES communities in critical information about construction and community health concerns. Our unique program focused on community ownership of this new initiative by hiring and training community members that live and work in GES communities.

 CENSUS 2020: AURORA, CO

CREA Results served as the official Census Liaison for the City of Aurora and was responsible for strategy and outreach throughout the entire city and three county area. The Decennial Census occurs once every ten years and is an opportunity to count each person living in the US regardless of status, age or background. The Census shapes our future and provides for more funding for better schools, improvements in healthcare, more housing options and support, stronger infrastructure and increased representation in our government. Our team worked to ensure culturally appropriate outreach and engagement activities, including:

  • Engaging people directly where they live, shop and work

  • Reaching people virtually

  • Working with trusted voices from business, nonprofit, government and faith

  • Distributing materials and providing staff support

As a direct results of our outreach, Colorado's most diverse city was able to beat their 2010 response rate of 68% with a completion of 72.2%, topping Colorado’s response rate by 2.2%. We canvassed tens of thousands of households and placed direct calls to thousands of residents, distributed partnership incentives and resources to dozens of organizations to support outreach, trained and coordinated with dozens of individuals, organizations and agencies, and provided a fun, creative and engaging communications messaging for the whole city.

“CREA Results has shown their commitment to our residents and has been effective in ensuring a successful count. Their bilingual outreach team has proven that a grassroots approach to high-stakes, multi-stakeholder outreach works.”

LIVEWELL COLORADO, COMMUNITY HEALTH ORGANIZING: LIVEWELL COLORADO, COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT AND SPARK POLICY INSTITUTE

CREA Results designed and managed a process with LiveWell Colorado, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and Spark Policy Institute to engage communities in Montezuma County, Chaffee County, and El Paso County in addressing public health disparities through Healthy Eating & Activity Living (HEAL) policies. Each community was supported through the CREA Results approach: community, research, education and awareness. Working with local community members, we built local community coalition groups to research a policy project, educate and organize around it, and then bring awareness to important benchmarks that would lead to lasting policy change, or change in the built environment.

This three-year project involved project management, administrative support, professional development, and guidance and support in communities across all three counties. Central to this project was internal and external management. Internally, we managed communication and coordination with a team from LiveWell, CDPHE and Spark Policy Institute so all partners could maintain line-of-sight, contribute to the overall project vision and continue to exercise ownership of the project outcomes.

LEAD-BASED PAINT HAZARD CONTROL PROGRAM: CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER

In partnership with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the City and County of Denver, CREA Results conducted multi-year project aimed to eliminate lead paint from homes. CREA Results provided outreach, engagement and application assistance to families in Denver who qualified for assistance. Working with families throughout the City and County of Denver, we were able to ensure 9 households received tens of thousands of dollars in assistance from HUD. Through this program, qualifying homeowners have received a full lead-risk assessment, an abatement plan and abatement services, which can average $8,500 per home.

To educate and reach families, our team conducted a multidimensional outreach campaign that included:

  • Over 200 total outreach events

  • More than 10,000 total people engaged

  • Training over 15 Promotores and creating two new jobs to support outreach

  • Placing over 1200 phone calls

  • Conducting over 30 educational workshops and house visits

Celebrando la Vida: Kaiser Permanente of Colorado)

Kaiser Permanente Colorado engaged CREA Results during the 2014 open enrollment period to conduct an aggressive, multi-pronged community outreach campaign in the five-county Denver Metro Area, Weld and Larimer Counties. CREA’s three primary objectives were to (1) educate 25,000 Latinos in the five-county Denver Metro Area, Weld and Larimer Counties, about the value and importance of health insurance coverage. (2) Drive individuals to the CREA Call Center and then to Certified Application Assistance sites for help identifying the health coverage options that best serve their individual needs. (3) Capture target market data through one-on-one conversations, surveys and phone calls. This project is a strong demonstration of our team capacity to develop strategic, public-facing messaging and reach a wide audience through multiple modes of communications (written, verbal, television, radio, online, ground campaign, etc.).

This campaign saw tremendous success, with more than 13,000 individuals reached on the ground and over 1 million estimated reached via our media strategy. Our success was rooted in the CREA approach to working with diverse communities to research and inform engagement strategies. Community outreach included teams of trained and skilled CREA Promotores deployed in the selected outreach areas (Denver Metro Area, Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Greeley), to local gathering places, schools, community churches, popular markets, and public events to disseminate marketing materials and to educate individuals about the importance of health, the value of health insurance coverage, and the availability of enrollment support services. CREA Promotores then followed up with those who said they wanted to be contacted, gathering additional information to determine whether the caller should be directed to an application assistance site, or directly to the Colorado Health Exchange at connectforhealthcolorado.org. Media outreach was developed by CREA Results through culturally appropriate radio announcements and print advertisements and distributed throughout the campaign communities. Radio and print advertisements were included to complement the community outreach efforts and referred listeners and readers to CREA’s toll free number where Promotores provided specific information about the Patient Accountability Affordable Care Act (PAACA), explained eligibility, and screened for eligibility for other services.
