Denver Water Lead Reduction Program: Help Denver Water get the lead out of our community.

Our Ongoing Partnership with Denver Water’s Lead Reduction Program.

CREA Results will be working with Denver Water to promote its Lead Reduction Program in Latinx and immigrant communities throughout the Denver area. While the water that Denver Water provides to homes and businesses is lead-free, lead can get into the water as it moves through customer-owned water service lines and plumbing that contain lead. CREA Results will be educating customers about Denver Water’s community outreach efforts, which include providing free water pitchers and filters that are certified to remove lead to all customers with lead service lines until their line is replaced, and for six months beyond.

Over the next 15 years, Denver Water will replace an estimated 64,000 to 84,000 lead service lines with copper pipes as a part of its Lead Reduction Program. This program was approved in December 2019 by the Environmental Protection Agency and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and includes increasing pH levels to a target of 8.8 throughout all of Denver Water’s distribution system. This will help to prevent metal, like lead, from getting into the water as it passes through lead-containing household fixtures, plumbing and service lines. Read Denver Water’s TAP story to learn more about this milestone.

CREA Results will work with a team of multicultural outreach specialists to ensure that neighbors throughout the Denver Water service area are informed and engaged during the Lead Reduction Program. Working with our multilingual staff members, we will ensure that neighbors understand when changes are coming and the importance of properly utilizing their water filters.
